Hell yes! So excited to see some competition for Intel in the processor space! On par performance, better battery life and cheaper. I’d even be onboard with slightly less performance if they keep the rest of it inline.
At the bottom of the ladder stands the Ryzen 3 1400 and 1500X, which both feature four cores; eight threads; and 3.2GHz/3.5GHz base speeds, respectively. They will start at $169 and $189.
In an email with Spiceworks, AMD declined to comment on when it plans to release the Ryzen 3.
It did, however, say it has seen “great excitement at all levels of integration and implementation” when asked if it predicted larger successes in the PC or server markets.
Already, reports have emerged that Microsoft’s upcoming Surface Pro 5 will forgo Intel’s Kaby Lake processors and instead use AMD’s Ryzen chips. (Editor’s note: Spiceworks was unable to verify these reports.)
