Verizon’s Use of AppFlash Software Sure Sounds Like Another Dirty, Privacy Invading Bloatware Bonanza | droid-life.com

With the news coming out this week that your ISP can now SELL your browsing history to advertisers this is just one more nail in the coffin of any form of privacy…. how annoying and stupid.  It especially sucks because I’m a VZW customer, however you can guarantee if it shows up on my Pixel I will surely disable it.

Earlier in the week, when no one was paying attention because Samsung was on the verge of announcing the Galaxy S8, Verizon quietly announced a new service it plans to begin pushing to its Android devices. AppFlash is its name and so far the service is raising some eyebrows over its collection of data, but also because it’s another piece of garbage bloatware that no one was asking for that will be used to further line Verizon’s pockets.

AppFlash is gaining extra attention today because the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) is straight up calling it spyware. I don’t know that I’m ready to go that far, but the EFF argues that this is yet another surface for hackers to attack in order to steal information about you. If AppFlash isn’t secure enough, your device could be open to hackers snagging your “mobile number, device identifiers, device type and operating system, and information about the AppFlash features and services you use and your interactions with them.” That quote was taken directly out of the AppFlash privacy policy as the items they want to know about you.
